Sport News: Bulgaria wants to host the European Figure Skating Championships in 2025

Sofia will try to host the European Figure Skating Championships in January 2025 after Zagreb was unable to host the championships, BF Skating reports.

The Croatian capital has opted out of hosting next year's men's and women's championships. In a message to the International Skating Union, the Croatian Federation announced that the reason was "unforeseen circumstances".

This necessitates urgently finding another host and the Bulgarian Skating Federation is already preparing the documents. The deadline for their submission is May 24, when it will be clear which other cities are ready to host the competition.

The dates of the competition are January 20 - 26, 2025.

Zagreb was also supposed to host the European Championship in 2021, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

So far, Sofia has hosted two championships on the continent - in 1991 and in 1996. The starting autumn season is pre-Olympic, so the results of the European will be important for the classification of competitors for the 2026 Olympics in Milan and Cortina D'Ampezzo.

The 21-year-old ace of the champion "Bayer" Leverkusen, Florian Wirtz, became the #1 player for the season in the Bundesliga, reports the official website of the German elite.

This season, the offensive midfielder played in 32 of 34 games, scored 11 goals and recorded 12 assists.

Thus, the German international made his contribution to the first German championship title in the history of "Bayer".

Wirtz is considered a sure starter in the Bundesliga for the upcoming home European Championship.
